Therapy with Compassion, Patience, and No Judgment

Rachel Baumann is a licensed therapist and Nationally Certified School Psychologist who specializes in providing evidence-based therapies for children, adolescents, adults, and their families. Rachel uses a collaborative and compassionate approach to assist her clients with reaching their goals and live a life driven by their values. Rachel has extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Behavioral Activation (BA). Rachel also treats Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors such as Trichotillomania (hair-pulling) and Excoriation Disorder (compulsive skin picking) using CBT and Habit Reversal Training (HRT).

Rachel has significant experience in treating trauma and trauma-related disorders using Prolonged Exposure (PE) and is certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) from the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN). Rachel also treats developmental and relational trauma and is particularly passionate about disseminating psychoeducation on healthy and safe relationships, intimate partner violence, and the effects coercive control have on children and teens. Recognizing the multi-layered effects trauma can have on attachment, relationships, development, brains, bodies, and sense of self, Rachel embeds multi-sensory and neurobiology-informed interventions into treatment.

Because of her experience as a school psychologist conducting comprehensive psychological evaluations for children and adolescents, Rachel has unique insight in the evaluation process for special education and 504 eligibility and plan development. As such, Rachel has expertise in a variety of neurodevelopmental concerns, including ADHD across the lifespan, language-based learning challenges, learning disabilities, and social/emotional difficulties. Rachel is also certified in Supporting Teens’ Autonomy Daily (STAND), an evidence-based parent-teen therapy for adolescents with ADHD and their parents. Rachel enjoys working with neurodivergent folks, especially those who are recently diagnosed or self-identified. Rachel has experience working with individuals who struggle with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). PDA, also known as Pervasive Drive for Autonomy, is a profile of autism that is characterized by a strong inclination to evade demands that is driven by an intense drive for autonomy. Rachel completed training with the world’s first comprehensive program to support PDA.

Rachel is passionate about supporting individuals with chronic, complex medical illnesses. Individuals will learn how to enhance their abilities to engage in the activities and relationships that are important to them while still taking care of their health. Rachel understands the intricacies of living with chronic illness and helps individuals and families navigate the unique obstacles a diagnosis brings. Living with chronic illness, taking care of a family member with chronic illness, or being the sibling of an individual who is chronically ill can cause significant grief. Rachel was trained at the Grief Recovery Institute, where she specialized in treating children and their families coping with grief of all kinds.

Rachel believes that a safe and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship is the foundation for creating change. Integrating a variety of treatment modalities, Rachel works to build self-compassion and flexibility when working with clients. Her approach allows individuals to learn new ways of relating to their thoughts and feelings. The ultimate goal is to help clients live more fulfilling and meaningful lives that are driven by their values.

Services and Payment

Fairfield Therapy is a completely Telehealth-based practice. Rachel has found that, especially during COVID, she can meet the needs of her clients in a unique way. Chronically ill clients, expectant mothers, working parents, college students, and the client who just wants to be cozy at home can better access their mental health needs by logging in weekly.

Rachel does not contract with insurance companies as an in-network provider. She does provide documentation in a “ready-to-go” format that individuals may choose to submit to insurance companies for out-of-network reimbursement.
